The Arrow (Highland Guard Novel)

The Arrow (Highland Guard, #9)The Arrow by Monica McCarty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Highland Guard novels are one of a kind romances, by the God’s I love historical romance!! Ones with kilts especially!!
Monica McCarty novels are so wonderfully packed with historical awesomeness as well as beautifully crafted characters. The Heroes in her books are both men and the women with equal importance, it’s never just a damsel in distress!

Cate was left for dead. Found trapped in a well after watching the rape and murder of her mother. She would always be grateful to Gregor for not only rescuing her but giving her a place in his home. Yet now that she has grown in to a woman she is desperate for him to see her as more than a child. I guess it would’ve help if she was honest about how old she really was when she was taken under his wing. Her age wasn’t the only white lie she has lived with for these past years. When Gregor returns home Cate’s plan goes into action show him you love him and be more lady like. Hahah, the first would have been easier if he wasn’t ignoring her due to the physical ramifications that occur when observing her in a not so sisterly like way! Being more like a lady is truly hard as well for Cate, when seeing a bully what better way to put a stop to it than take him down with a dagger to the neck! I will say she’s my kinda girl~

Gregor a phantom warrior is feeling off his game as of late, his arrows aim isn’t as true at it usually was. After blundering this past mission he felt spending some time at home would be a good way to recoup and hold off the worry that his identity has been reveled. When your nickname is the handsomest man in Scotland, it’s apparent you standout in a crowd. His good looks aren’t really a problem how can having women throwing themselves at you 24/7 be an issue. Just imagine all that loveless sex, the woman pawing all over you and know so little about you, nor do they want more than you can do for their bodies. Great stuff right? His is definitely tired of being a trophy. So when things between him and Cate start to finally lead in a permanent direction only to be destroyed after overhearing her boastful plan to trap him into marriage takes him to the point of no return. At least to her.

I felt a tiny bit lost at times with the history part of the story but I’ll be damned if the other extremely large portion of action and unadulterated sexually tuned in parts didn’t make up for it. After reading this book I hit the library and picked up 2 more from this series. Once I picked up the book putting it down was not an option! The emotional ups and downs were driving me bonkers. First it was “YES” their kissing then it was “NO” he’s such a dick. Then “YES” he’s such a Hero. Then “NO” she can do better. The need and drive to know how this will all end was a tangible thing. So much so I read two more book in the day and a half that follows putting this one down!
I received this for an honest review~
