Taste of Darkness

Taste of Darkness (Darkness, #2)Taste of Darkness by Katie Reus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Four months after breaking free of Hell and saving Vega the Hybrid shifter, much has changed for Drake.
The Stavros’ pack has opened their home giving him sanctuary in this modern day. After being trapped in Hell for over fifteen hundred years, surfacing in this new world was daunting to say the least. With no money, family or even memories, depending on this new family leaves Drake feeling unworthy of his strong claiming feelings for Victoria. Victoria has no idea of what is truly going on in that thick skull of his. Typical male. With her possessive wolf nature telling her to just digging and claim what’s yours, all she needs is a sign that this is what he’s feeling too. That stealth dragon makes his intentions clear as day after Fight Clubbing it out at the shifter style MMA Octagon. Drake openly marks Victoria as his. But his balls out fighting style has opened up opportunity for other secrets to come to light. Realizing for the first time there are other dragons out there in the world not to mention family this drives Drake to see where he comes from.

Memories of a child’s life start to flood back to Drake, but can his new happiness overcome the bloodshed of hundred lifetimes? Can he unlock the mystery of his own mind to remember who betrayed him? That is before he has a chance to claim Victoria.. Who wants to die a fifteen hundred year old virgin anyway?

Victoria has no intentions of letting this male off the hook so easily. Together they set off seeking answers.
Fighting together for the idea of forever…

Throat tight, she shook her head. She wanted to feel his lips against hers, to feel the sensation of his bare skin against her bare body. Of course he hadn’t said he wanted to do more than kiss her, but she couldn’t stop her fantasies.

A Love story is a love story! Who doesn’t like to read about people who find themselves in one another? I tend to be lured more towards paranormal books for the soul reason they bring more to the table, creatively speaking. I mean when you read about people willing to love so hard that without the other life would end, isn’t that romance?! A book that tells of two people fighting all the odds and making a go at it gets me every time. With Katie Reus' books you get the heart melting I’ll die for you romance and then some. You have maniacal killers trying to sacrifice you to open the gates of Hell. Over bearing family members that tend to suffocate you. Crazy cut throat killers, some that you proudly call family others that just want blood. This was a great follow up after Darkness Awakened (book#1) the books don’t have to be read in order and can totally be read as a standalone.
With more dragons uncovered, and feelings flying I can’t wait to see who and what the next book in the series is going to be about. If you want paranormal romance and sizzling down and dirty sex, than this is the author and book for you!!

Marked by The Vampire

Marked By The Vampire (Purgatory, #2)Marked By The Vampire by Cynthia Eden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Olivia Maddox just wanted to help mankind, as any good doctor should. Her case studies on killers were to help shed some light on if they killed purposely, was it a conscience decision? If she could study paranormal killers and find out their inner workings, could she help them stop the violence? If you want cut throat killers to study might as well start where they are all kept. Purgatory…. after practically begging to be sent to the only paranormal prison in the US, has she bit off more than she can chew?
Shane August is going straight to hell. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. His assignment is to go deep cover infiltrate the vampire coven and report. Let’s just say that ship sails the moment Olivia falls right into his arms. She captures him from the moment he sets his eyes on her. Shane is bewildered why anyone let alone this magnificent creature would want to be locked up with the most violent paranormals captured. How is she going to last a month studying these prisoners if she’s almost killed the first day? After being thrown to the wolves (quite literally) it’s time Olivia took life into her own hands. Knowing Shane is her safest bet, where he goes she follows. As if she had a choice.
Marked by the Vampire is a sexy whirl wind adventure…right to Hell. This is the first Purgatory book I have read, I think having a literal Hell on Earth was a great concept. Seems as if the series is in its early stages’ with only Werewolves and Vampires in the mix, I’m silently praying for more. Cynthia Eden holds nothing back with the love story between the 2,000 year old Vampire and his wish granting love interest. Terrific spin on wishful thinking, the idea where your every heart’s desire every wish you think up can go terribly wrong and nothing is guaranteed. Love that dark-sided thinking. Things that standout in this book and set it apart from other paranormal books is the good guys do bad things to make humankind safe. Meaning, even the heroes have to get their hands dirty. One moment you are running to them for safety the next you could be looking at an eternity locked up by them. The line gets blurry and that to me is fantastic. Lots of Grey areas. I was definitely intrigued by some of the characters in this book, with their motivation for helping is to make amends for past transgressions. I personally like the idea that each of them has that darkness, that eternal struggle…which in essence makes them human so to speak. The other thing is that really keeps me coming back to Cynthia Eden’s books is the Sex! No really, her bedroom play is always creative and not rushed. I mean they are adult romance books right?! But the finesse that is shown to make it hot, sexy and not raunchy should be mentioned. I look forward to reading the book before this one and the ones to follow, they can most definitely be read as a stand alone, but where is the fun in that!

Generation 18

Generation 18: The Spook Squad 2 (Spook Squad, #2)Generation 18: The Spook Squad 2 by Keri Arthur
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this for an honest review.

Three months after Sethanon's bomb blast and the death of her partner Samantha now works for SIU. With none other than Gabriel as a partner, knowing full well death comes in threes the last person he wants is her. At least in the work sense. Gabriel recognizes the bond awakening between them and works steadily to shut it down, not willing to go down that road ever again. All work and no play make Sam a cranky girl! So pissed off that her partner is not only trying to force her hand towards a transfer but has also shut her out on all levels, girl can’t even get a friendly cup of coffee. 10 years as a state officer has created a desire to not only research the bad guys but to go out there and haul their asses in as well and she damn well can’t do that if she’s stuck in her office doing mundane tasks.

Fate seems to be in her favor when a chance encounter with a “kite” leads her into more action than she dared ask for. Watching the kite stalk it’s carefully selected prey was all the insight she needed to recognize it was no random kill. Nope he was the first of many deaths to follow in the days ahead. Everybody killed is tied to Hopeworth a top government funded research facility that liked to experiment with genetics to make nonhuman wepons. With reoccurring dreams of a man who riddles me this and that Sam moves forward to really try to figure out who and what she is. When she decides to finally take a leap and look up the names on the birth certificate she realizes they are affiliated with Hopeworth. Maybe that can explain why the thundering storms not only call to her but empower her. So much for being human.

The twists and turns of the plot in this book were fantastic. So many players in this murder mystery like others written by Keri Arthur the story has so many angles to work. This isn’t like other genetically mutated paranormal books. It has way more detail like the inventive drugs being used, or the technology incorporated. This world Keri Arthur has created is so detailed nothing has been left out. I crave that shit! With every book comes more warped, menacing characters, and every time the heroes step there game up a little more. What this series lacks in bedroom play it makes up for in creative plot twists. If you want a fast paced murder mystery that has genetic monsters you have a winner right here. Just sprinkle on some serial killers, sexual tension, and evil that won’t quit.

Playing with Fire

Playing With Fire (Phoenix Fire, #3)Playing With Fire by Cynthia Eden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this for an honest review~

In a world where mythological and paranormal beings walk amongst humans is where the books setting lies. With this untapped resource of exotic DNA how can scientist and doctors not be expected to play.

With bettering mankind on the brain that is exactly what Cassandra Armstrong’s father accomplished. He made his test subjects stronger by tying their genetics to these anomalies weather they wanted it or not. Until it all went terribly wrong. Cassie’s father had intentions of making a stronger human race, a race of people that can stand toe to toe with these new Immortals walking among them. You know what they say “Hell is paved with good intentions”.

Cassie held her body as still as she could and wished, so very badly, that her father hadn't brought her back.
Because in those moments. She’d enjoyed death.

Among the study cases was Dante, Cassie was drawn to him from the very first encounter.
Dante is a primal being born of fire and flames a Phoenix. Each death takes its toll, after years of dying and rising up through the ashes each birth is different, Dante risks losing his memories and at times his sanity. Cassandra Armstrong is bound and determined to make right the cruel wrong doings of her family. Seeking out Dante is her only hope to heal her closest friends… Phoenix tears have a potent healing ability; I mean if they can raise the dead surely they can cure anything.

Problem 1) the only thing Dante remembers upon see her is Cassie killing him and let’s just say that doesn’t stop him from being fixated on his need for her.
Problem 2) Is Cassie’s ex-fiancĂ© Jon Abrams, who is all hoped up on crazy ambition to poses her and her abilities then maybe the world he’ll kill everything in his path.
Loco in the cabeza for sure!

Dodging bullets and keeping a very primitive male from burning the world down around her isn’t Cassie’s only struggle, what if everything you knew of yourself was a lie? That deep down you are more than a sweet alluring Vampire killing machine.

Even without a background from the previous books in the series I had no problem whatsoever keeping up. Cynthia Eden has a sure view of an overpowering, dominating, headstrong male who keeps what’s his. Dante is a very intense character; I must say his possessive nature was a turn on to say the least. I thoroughly loved his burning it all to the ground attitude. The fast paced action mixed with the perplexing chemistry between them kept me turning page after page. I will be reading every book in this series.

Crave The Night (Midnight Breed, #12)Crave The Night by Lara Adrian
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Crave the Night picks up days after the Opus Nostrum’s Morningstar bomb..Incident where
The Order deflected another all out war between the humans and breed.

Now a new threat is exposed and gathering as much intell as possible is a key element in preparation for future attacks. La Notte’s cryptic owner Cassian Gray is first up for interrogation. Trouble is Nathan and his sentinels can’t seem to corner this elusive man, if he is even a man in the human context. Cass isn’t just hiding from The Order, no his threat is way more dangerous than that, he knows firsthand what they are capable of seeing as they use to share the same allegiance. Cassian’s secrets are on the cusp of unfolding, changing things for The Order and whoever else they are sharing the planet with.

Nathan was cultivated to be a weapon. Weapons don’t feel or talk they are instruments used to carry out ones wishes, user beware.
He was born and raised a Hunter, one of the dark legion bred for killing and stripped of all emotion or attachment, which broadcast an unspoken, visceral terror”

Shutting out his past, going through life keeping his composure is easier said than done, especially after the cataclysmic kiss Jordana Gates bestows upon him. He can scarcely believe how altered he’s become, his control is frayed and every encounter he has with Jordana unravels and exposes him further.

Jordana is cultured, classy and wants for nothing. Adopted by her father Martin Gate’s as a baby grew up with an abundance of not only money but love as well. Working hard staking a claim in her own right, she wants more than to be daddys little princess. Obligation is staring her point blank in the face like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun, with all that is expected of her. The kiss awakens Joradana’s true nature, her soul yearns to take flight with new wings. Terrified to fall can she leap and grab a hold of her destiny?

”Some brazen part of her she barely recognized throbbed with the want to know that kiss again -to have a taste of what it would be like to press against this deadly male and she if he ever let his iron discipline slip, even a little”

Floored yet again by this series, the book picks up where Edge of Dawn so gracefully left you. God, the ebb and flow of Nathan and Jordana’s relationship make it all the more enjoyable to follow especially as it crests. I find it hard to be insightful without giving away key surprises, but there are some fantastic things in store for the followers of this series! How Lara Adrian does it I know not, nor will I question it…lol I think fellow fans of this series will become enraptured with what this book sheds light on. That’s it I’ll say no more!!!!

Dark SacrificeDark Sacrifice by Angie Sandro
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this for an honest review~

Long after the fires burn out and speculation is running high Landry has all the time in the world to question every action that lead to him being in jail. Better yet being prosecuted for the murder of Ms. Jasmine, Mala’s mother. How can she ever love or trust him now?

“You wouldn’t let me help her. Mama died because of you!” “I hate you , Landry!”
Mala~

Famous last words from Mala at the end of the first book, funny how death really helps put things in perspective and I don’t mean Ms. Jasmine’s.

While Landry is pensive in jail Malaise LaCroix is in no better shape herself! Trying to keep her cool in the Psychiatric ward of the hospital, counting the days till she can be released. She is so filled with grief after what happen to her mother, her only comfort at the moment is her long-time heart throb George coming to visit her. Only too late does she realize his intentions were only a band aid to the real problems afoot. Truth is being locked up hasn’t kept her from roaming , astral projection has given her freedom to do as she likes. It seems watching over Landry Prince in jail is what she has a taste for.

“The scent of orchids overpowers the stench of Caleb, and I draw in a deep breath. My muscles relax, and the ache behind me eye drains like water trickling down a drain.
She’s here.”

“A tiny piece of me hopes the reason Mala comes to me every night isn’t to plot her revenge but ‘cause she still cares”

Both excited to have real freedom yet taken back by all the threats lingering unseen.

Acker man is back an full to the brim with rage is he, fueling his spirit making it a formidable foe. Plus a mysterious 4th man on the loose trying to bury loose ends from Ms. Jasmine’s murder. Gets even better when Aunt Magnolia comes to collect payment for the dealings at the crossroads, Mala is somewhat dragging her feet about the whole apprentice-hoodoo -magic-blood-oath-sacrifice-thing.

“Come with me and I’ll teach you all my tricks.” “You, the last LaCriox”
Magnolia~

But really what’s a girl to do? Only thing to sweeten the pot is Landry, his near death experience has enhanced his ghost radar therefore now he is also on Magnolia’s must have list. Something darker is deep within him, and his very soul is on the line. Will going to New Orleans help surface answers Mala and Landry both desperately need?
Hopefully Mala and Landry can take Ruby’s advice, about them staying together to face all these obstacles.

“Don’t you get it? I’m evil, Landry.”
“Baby, I’ve got a demon sipping at my soul like it’s a bottle of chardonnay. If anyone’s evil, it’s me.”

I thought this book would quench my thirst for the comings and goings of Paradise Pointe, man I was so wrong. You know the saying out of the furnace and into the fire; yeah that pretty much sums it up. Angie Sandro‘s panache for making you feel like you got all the answers, only to realize you have new questions. Loads of them. The weaving of words on each page work like magic until you’re so fixated on what’s going to happen next ,you find yourself burning through the pages one after another until they are gone. The book was so exciting so many things unfold and the ending was spectacular! Malaise LaCroix is a beautifully written heroine in these books, she has a rawness about her that makes her seem vulnerable but she builds strength in each situation and a determined resolve over comes her taking quitting out of the equation.
I find these are books you have to read, you’ll see!

Darksider (Reveler, #3)Darksider by Erin Kellison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Darksider #3 in the Reveler series, keeps the action coming and exposes new threats in the REVE world.

The Reve is even more dangerous now with creatures lurking in the Darkwaters, waiting for unexpected Revelers. If they consume you or kill you in this dream state you’ll never wake up. End of story. Good Bye. You’re dead.

Good thing Harlen Fawkes is always on duty, working with Chimera to keep the Reve safe. Even with his military training in the dream world, nothing could have prepared him for the call from his old flame Sera. Sera thought she could handle the creepy stalker who has been invading her dreams for the last year. That is until she saw him, the stalker right outside the window of her restaurant while still awake. Breaking down and calling Harlen was no chore, but seeing him up close makes her want it all; him, her career the “whole kitten kaboodle”.

“This was what she’d feared when she’d called him – the connection that ran deep and true. He’d said he was attracted, and she’d felt the petulant whine of her own nerve endings when she’d denied herself touching him. Even now she was tight inside, wanting. After all this time, there was only Harlen.”

While sorting out Sera’s problem, Harlen stumbles upon a Reve that shouldn’t exist….Which leads him to believe Chimera has dirty operatives. Ferreting them out is no easy task, yet his abilities make him just the man for the job. With a better understanding of why Rook and other agents have gone off the grid can they stop this new threat? Or will there be no safe harbor in the Darkwaters?

(Squeaks with delight) Love this series. These books are a tiny bit shorter than the other book I have read by Erin Kellison. Don’t let the size fool you; they are jammed packed and ready to submerge you in the Reveler experience. Each book has one of a kind original characters, with names you can actually say but are creative not only on the tongue but the persona they embody. . I love what Erin Kellison brings to the paranormal table, I find myself sprouting a renewed love in this genre.

Darkness Falls (Reveler, #1)Darkness Falls by Erin Kellison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reveler #1 was the Matrix reborn/remade in a paranormal book!

Reve: A Dream world where for the right price you can play out any fantasy you can dream up! It's the latest addiction not for the body but for the soul. Remember to use caution because where dreams exists so do nightmares!

Rook: working for Chimera to keep the Reve somewhat safe. He is a master in this field that is until he meets Jordan. Using his unique ability to track Jordan when she falls asleep comes easy, keeping his nightmares from following him and hurting her not so much. Rook is a beautiful honest man, shouldering mistakes made as a kid. The best part about him and Jordan coming together is when she faces his ugly past, instead of cringing or shutting him out she puts her big-girl-panties on and handles that shit!
Love that girl~

Jordan: Thinks she is doing her sister a sold, Maze just turned 21 and is all pumped up the try this Reve thing everyone is crazy about. Unknowingly, colliding head first in to a shit storm of trouble her sister has been dealing in for God knows how long. Jordan's first time in the Reve has unlocked some next level characteristics that will hopefully help keep her alive. But being a rare commodity has its price, others want her talents as well, and they don’t come in a sexually appealing package like Rook~

The smoldering chemistry Rook and Jordan have is too hot to handle. Lord I needed a tall cold beer after this book! The snarky and funny humor Jordan dishes out when dealing with stressful situations touches a place in rook he didn’t know existed.

This was serious. She was becoming something to him so quickly, like a second nature he hadn't know existed. Yeah, she could live here. She sure as hell wasn't living anywhere else. She was his. He was keeping her. He'd waited so long to feel like this. Easy. Happy. Relaxed.
Rook~

Revelers series is going to open up your waking reality and have you daydreaming about the next book!
Like the other books I have Read By Erin Kellison, your creative juices will be flowing with all the possibilities for what is to come. Do not miss out on this series!!

Soul Kissed (Shadow Kissed, #2)Soul Kissed by Erin Kellison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this for an honest review~

The multifaceted world Mason and Cari live in is much like the world today. Just add a touch of Shadow magic, angels, mages, wraiths and you almost have it. Mason Stray is facing the most difficult decision of his life; with a plague killing off magekind can he leave his son to find the cause, knowing that Fletcher (his son) doesn’t stand a chance without a warded house to protect him. Mason and Cari have history, he was the “Ungettable get” “The one that got away” in their youth. Cari now the “Dolan”, mage royalty in her own right and Mason is just considered a “Stray” unclaimed and basically lesser to magekind, you can imagine what a union between them could unravel. With chaos and death at every turn, this is the perfect opportunity to see what they could become! Now both working together to face the maker of this terrible epidemic, will they prevail or will the world as they know it be cloaked in darkness?

" He initiated a conversation in an old language she didn't know, but in spite of the thumping of her heart, found she could understand perfectly. His mouth said, I want you. I need you. I'm hungry for you. And she responded by wrapping an arm around his neck and repeating the words right back in her own feminine dialect"

Cari’s so complex in her struggle: Can she keep her royal house together? Will she make her late father proud? Will Maeve aka Mad Mab surface and claim all the pretty things for herself? Damn being a woman is hard enough, but tack on these issues and the woman can’t help but erupt.

" Maeve pushed the girls chin up with her thumb. Her head still lolled a bit to the side. "She is broken."Ally. Hmm. Do we shed tears of happiness, or do we weep?"

Mason Stray though he had love once, but it turned against him and now his son. Both cast side by Liv aka baby mama, is he more than what she and everyone else thinks or just another Stray? God I love an underdog! Battling not only the dark forces but also everyone’s lesser opinions!! Provem’-wrong-kinda-attitude!!!

This was one of the best paranormal series I have read. The romance doesn’t overshadow the action; it just builds up and then erupts. So carefully written is this other world humans mingle in, so many angles this series can sprout. I started this book and 6 hrs later I am itching to get my hands on another book by Erin Kellison. She has a flair for keeping it simple and yet complex. You don’t get lost in translation with this new world of hers you blend right in. So easy to follow and let yourself get completely engrossed. If you like Epic Paranormal reads this is a series to add to your MUST HAVE LIST!

The House of the Four Winds (One Dozen Daughters, #1)The House of the Four Winds by Mercedes Lackey
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received this for an honest review.
Having a large family is expensive, trying to provide a dowry for 12 daughters is even more so.
Being the oldest and off the hook from ruling the very small Duchy of Swansgaarde, Clarice is ready to go forth and seek her fortune. Her chosen profession is with the Sword, weather by being an exclusive instructor or master swordsmen. But before she settles into a trade she is desperate to see the world.
Posing as a man makes her traveling much easier and people tend to take her more serious, especially when she gains passage on a ship to start a new adventure. The Asesino is where fate has steered her to begin this voyage, even with her careful preparation Clarice could have never planned for her stint at sea. Dominick happens to be the navigator aboard and they become the closest of friends. Only problem is when Clarice starts to wish he would call her by her given name not the one she is hiding behind. When mutiny aboard the ship divides the crew, Clarice and Dominick have to work together if they plan on bringing down the nefarious forces soon to meet them.

The book setting a historical and magical realm; the authors’ took great steps to really think of every fun and witty magic based convenience. The book was a wonderful read, yet it lacked romance. Also I feel that the reveal about Clarice’s gender was way to close to the end of the book. There was no real time for Dominick and her to have a believable relationship. Yes, the relationship started out of the most coveted of friendships but that was the only facet. I was so pumped up for the climax when they finally reach the graveyard of ships but only to be let down by the extremely swift ending. The way the book just ended kind of left a stale taste for me, I wanted not a happily ever after but a smoother exit would have been the extra star on the review.
Will I read more of the series? Unsure, at least a touch of romance, besides embracing kisses would have been better.

The Silver Chain (The Unbreakable Trilogy, #1)The Silver Chain by Primula Bond
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this for an honest review.
I can hardly believe I waited this long to read this book!!
The Silver Chain has a poetic tone matched with a deeply erotic story. I would recommend this book if you enjoy titillating and adult type romances.
Serena has finally taken that step toward her future, her new life. Starting over with her inheritance, she has full intentions of making a name for herself in the art world with her photography. The head strong voyeur that she is makes her timing in life and work epic. Take for instance her chance encounter meeting Gustav, the instant connection that sparks. This I would say that is the moment she fell down the rabbit hole….lol Riding on instinct and determination to make a name for herself, the deal made with Gustav will take her places she only dreamed of. Gustav Levi I find it hard to be insightful about him without giving away too much of the book! Besides being sexually appealing to Serena he becomes an anchor of sorts for her. Giving her inner peace and some of the hottest sexual encounters one could ever ask for.

Being the first time ever reading this authors work I was impressed with her fluency and her style! The details she has given set a magical tone to the world around Serena, making her seem more artistic. Reading this book was no chore, and the eloquent writing makes it all the more delicious!!

Dark ParadiseDark Paradise by Angie Sandro
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mala is the last in a long line of witches, these supernatural powers surface upon her discovery of a body floating in her families swamp. She thought persecution for being the town whore's daughter was bad, when in reality once the townsfolk think her and her mama's hoodoo is responsible for the murder of Lainey Prince the shit really hits the fan. With the soul of the dead girl "Lainey Prince" waiting to inhabit her body, Mala must keep her head above water if she aims to survive.

Malaise Jean Marie LaCroix has been the secret object of Landry Princes desire for as long as he can remember. How can they be together, when the LaCroix family is at the center of all the speculation for his sister's murder? Yet his only solace is found when in the arms of Mala, Landry's parents are capable of anything to keep him from consorting with the enemy. When in truth the murderer is closer than he could imagine. Can Mala help Landry find the killer, before her world is scorched in fire?

This book was simply amazing!! The Mystery and crazy plot twists make this book a sure thing! I found myself so engrossed in the finesse of Angie Sandro's writing. The author's talent for balance, makes this a phenomenal mystery right up to the end. You are kept on the edge of your seat the entire time...with a smooth transition right to the last page the book, I am dying to read what happens next!!!

I received this for an honest review.
