Steel and Song (The Aileron Chronicles, #1)

Steel and Song (The Aileron Chronicles, #1)Steel and Song by Ani Bolton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Steel and song had a blend of magic and folklore to it that was very intriguing. The creative thinking that a witch can make a aircraft fly was pretty freaking cool!

Tova has little to no choices in life, use your magic to fly an aileron or go straight to the trenches where her survival rate will be slightly lower than burning out whilst flying. Airwitches are becoming extremely hard to come by during the war. So her journey begins with a misunderstanding in her village that sends her to war. The Vana clan is mostly field sorcerers but she is the only exception. Tova is the odd man out and is dangerously close to going to the trenches when fate steps in and decides if she’s an Airwitch she’ll do. Thrust into flying an aileron with no experience is a care Airship captain Piers Dashkov does not have, if she dies then he’ll find another.

The story really picks up while Tova is under the watchful eye of her crew she struggles with settling in in the military base. On Pier’s crew she non-intentionally makes a difference maybe they realize what a fierce heart she has and this fueled with determination make her valuable to them. That and there is a shortage of Airwitches..

I did enjoy this book I feel like it could have used a glossary, I was lost on a couple terms. I understood that it was about a large war going on and the magic welders were the lower class, a lower class that was preparing for revolution. They were expendable and didn’t realize they actually held all the power. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the read but I wish I would have had a reference to understand more fully about the class system. The book had a steampunk vibe but also some folklore as well. One thing that stood out for me was Tova love to sing and this was forbidden… I wanted to understand this a little more also what the singing had to do with Tova’s magic. Maybe in the next book.

The book was enjoyable and complicated…lol But given the chance I would read the next~

Unborn (Unborn Series #1)

Unborn (Unborn, #1)Unborn by Amber Lynn Natusch
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have this feeling Unborn will be a huge success in the book world! I love the Greek flavor this book delves into! So unique and extremely well delivered~

Khara, is a child of Ares the god of war. What makes her special isn’t being his child but his only daughter. No females that came from his loins ever survived, as he wished it they were all killed. This well kept secret is thrust from the depths of the Underworld to Earth…Detroit to be exact. Almost slain by her own brother, that is before he realized that she too is a product of Ares. Drew one of her brother’s in Detroit is part of the PC…Petronus Ceteri (aka the protectors of others). The PC maintain the frail balance between the natural and supernatural. The Detroit PC is maintained by her 4 brothers and Oz… a fallen angel. Soon after her arrival it is apparent Khara is an Unborn (kind like a baby angel) yet she is in her adult state. With unfurled wings her soul is a fragile thing that can be claimed by dark or light.

Evil in its purest form lurk in Detroit, Khara is a beacon calling to that evil and she becomes easliy entranced by it. So the brothers and Oz have to step it up to keep her from harm’s way. Khara has survived in the Underworld for years, living in this environment has made her fearless. Not fearless as in a total badass, but she has had rather hard lessons in her life and realized early on that fear needed to be masked. She accepts whatever fate has in store for her. Can Khara hold her composure when all she has gained is threatened… will she let them all die to protect her?

I found this book to be a treasure! The Greek Mythology was so well blended into the story you don’t need a glossary for the terms or to clear up what the hell is going on. It was simplistically wonderful! I was really unsure of how the book would be I have never read or heard of Amber Lynn Natusch…but I assure you I have now. I will be ready to pounce on her next book in this series!!

The beauty with Khara was watching these new feeling evolve….much like an child learning to smile for the first time. Her first attempts at humor are very fitting to see where and what her life has been. The taste of freedom is a rich and wonderful thing for her something she will fight for. The book has a smooth ending that makes to want to scream like an impetulant child for the next dose of Amber Lynn Natusch’s writing~ I need to know what happens next with Oz and Khara, what will her brothers do? Will Ares find out he has a daughter??? So many variables!

Penumbra (Spook Squad #3)

Penumbra (Spook Squad, #3)Penumbra by Keri Arthur
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sam is on cusp of remembering her past. A past she wanted to erase. She is putting her life first and foremost; her first action is severing her partnership with Gabriel. Sam is tired of being cooped up in the closet like office, no more! Her new assignment is with the clone of the Wetherton, which may place her in more danger than she realizes. At this point Sam is far to determined to care…. She wants answers!
Watching Wetherton and trying to find out who is behind that list of clones, vampires and marked targets. What does this all have to do with Hopeworth? Will there be a war with Sethanon??

OMG!!!! So Sam splits the terrible partnership with Gabriel, only to find out they may never be able to really sever that connection. Gabriel is still an ass for ignoring Sam and his feelings that are lurking underneath his oath to a long dead mate. So while undercover Sam has these amazing connecting moments where the puzzle pieces are all lining up. (Rubs hand together…finally) Nobody is who they seem to be! Which makes this mystery so epic! Yes, there were some great strides with Gab and Sam, yet the truth that is found is so outrageous I can’t even imagine what the next book has in store!!! I was delighted to finally figure out who Joe and Josh are, also who and what Sethanon is about.
Need that last book pronto! I loved this series so far… so much action and the mystery is layered so intricately. Fantastic read!!!

How to Reprimand you Rock Star

How to Reprimand Your Rock StarHow to Reprimand Your Rock Star by Mina Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ever have the hankering for something a little dirty yet tasteful, that is exactly what I had in mind when grabbing this book. Mina Vaughn I salute you! I wanted something that has fantastic sensual encounters but still had a really good story line besides the sex, then top all that off with some kink for good measure. I swear Mina Vaughn fills that book void like no other!!

Thea “Pops” Papastathopoulos is the up and coming Rookie of the Year at UConn. Balancing her GPA and staying on the starting lineup is a full time job, especially if she wants to maintain her scholarship. A chance encounter with Keaton Lowe throws her from the rule abiding path she has always taken. His expecting eyes and behavior surface a new part to Thea that she didn’t even know existed. This extremely popular musician is taken back by Thea. He loves the fact that she has absolutely no idea who he is or what he does. So when he strategically implements himself in her life are they going to be bound for disaster or pleasure?

This is the 2nd Mina Vaughn book I have read and they NEVER disappoint. I will freely admit I love a good D/s book. The difference with Mina’s books is the woman is the Top/ Domme/Mistress….Whatever you want to call it and these girls know how to gain submission. There is no smut here; just a girl with a taste for more than vanilla sex. At least she thinks that I mean she is a virgin so I think sex in general is going to be exploratory as well it should be. So you have the freshman rookie doing her college thing then she gets caught up in the too-tight-leather-pants-rocker who only wants to submit to her. But the beauty in the book is Thea grasping what she wants in life. Knowing what she wants and taking it. Her exploring this Domme side actually helps her gain control in other aspect to her life. The book unravels in the most delicious ways! I am terribly excited to read whatever Mina Vaughn throws at her readers next!!!

The Truth about Leo

The Truth About Leo (Noble, #4)The Truth About Leo by Katie MacAlister
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The truth about Leo is the 4th installment in the Noble series, this being the first I have read in this series I would say it can totally be read as a standalone. But after you read this one you’ll probably smash through the others. I found this book to be one of the best Historical Romances I have read, it embodies everything you can want: Humor, Historical setting, Love, Deception and Romance.

Dagmar Marie Sophie is a princess who also happens to be down on her luck with both parents gone and the impending eviction from the only house she knows, where to go that is the question? Dagmar is doing extremely unladylike things to keep food on her table but her ideas get even more questionable when it comes to gaining passage to England. This witty Danish royalty will do whatever it takes to stay out of the convent her boorish cousin intends to send her to. So when a solider of sorts is unconscious and looks like death might take him, she sees opportunity… Marry the man! If he dies you get safe passage, if he lives you get safe passage and a husband to later divorce. Seems reasonable!
Or just hold him hostage? A Lady must have options~

“It’s this or harlotry, Julia. I cannot go to the French convent. I’m not at all the sort of person who would thrive in such a strict environment, and if you had any love for me, any love at all, you would help me ransom that hurt man!”

Leopold Ernst George Mortimer is a spy for the king; his memory is a little foggy after the kitten rescue. One would think getting married would be a memorable thing, upon awakening aboard a ship heading to England with a wife no less! His situation gets even more peculiar when he realizes he wants Dagmar, even if her companion is accused of murder.

“I am a virgin. Would you mind sucking on my other breast? It is out of sorts because you’ve paid so much attention to the right one.” Dagmar~

“ I want to consummate you as you’ve never been consummated, and the continue consummating you until one or possibly both of us expire from sheer, unadulterated pleasure, but that, my fine temptress, is not going to happen until I have made a few decisions. And to that end, let us continue the discussion we were having when you attempted to seduce me by means of your delicious breast”. Leo~

Another Favorite moment~

“ I am gentle,” she said pinching his arm. And innocent! Most definitely not a harlot.” Dagmar~

“And yet just a few minutes ago you were sitting on my lap, playing with my penis and trying to suck the tongue out of my head.” Leo~

“That’s because we’re married.” ~Dagmar

I am in awe of how wonderful this book truly was. I have a large portion highlighted. The comical way Dagmar handles all situations is a thing of beauty. Katie MacAlister has a magical way of thinking, the way she writes is unique to say the very least. The Harpy part was so funny I didn’t think it could get any better than that and then it did.
Quick witty writing even in the most sensually compromising positions, I was unsure whether to fan myself or laugh! Well done indeed~

The Arrow (Highland Guard Novel)

The Arrow (Highland Guard, #9)The Arrow by Monica McCarty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Highland Guard novels are one of a kind romances, by the God’s I love historical romance!! Ones with kilts especially!!
Monica McCarty novels are so wonderfully packed with historical awesomeness as well as beautifully crafted characters. The Heroes in her books are both men and the women with equal importance, it’s never just a damsel in distress!

Cate was left for dead. Found trapped in a well after watching the rape and murder of her mother. She would always be grateful to Gregor for not only rescuing her but giving her a place in his home. Yet now that she has grown in to a woman she is desperate for him to see her as more than a child. I guess it would’ve help if she was honest about how old she really was when she was taken under his wing. Her age wasn’t the only white lie she has lived with for these past years. When Gregor returns home Cate’s plan goes into action show him you love him and be more lady like. Hahah, the first would have been easier if he wasn’t ignoring her due to the physical ramifications that occur when observing her in a not so sisterly like way! Being more like a lady is truly hard as well for Cate, when seeing a bully what better way to put a stop to it than take him down with a dagger to the neck! I will say she’s my kinda girl~

Gregor a phantom warrior is feeling off his game as of late, his arrows aim isn’t as true at it usually was. After blundering this past mission he felt spending some time at home would be a good way to recoup and hold off the worry that his identity has been reveled. When your nickname is the handsomest man in Scotland, it’s apparent you standout in a crowd. His good looks aren’t really a problem how can having women throwing themselves at you 24/7 be an issue. Just imagine all that loveless sex, the woman pawing all over you and know so little about you, nor do they want more than you can do for their bodies. Great stuff right? His is definitely tired of being a trophy. So when things between him and Cate start to finally lead in a permanent direction only to be destroyed after overhearing her boastful plan to trap him into marriage takes him to the point of no return. At least to her.

I felt a tiny bit lost at times with the history part of the story but I’ll be damned if the other extremely large portion of action and unadulterated sexually tuned in parts didn’t make up for it. After reading this book I hit the library and picked up 2 more from this series. Once I picked up the book putting it down was not an option! The emotional ups and downs were driving me bonkers. First it was “YES” their kissing then it was “NO” he’s such a dick. Then “YES” he’s such a Hero. Then “NO” she can do better. The need and drive to know how this will all end was a tangible thing. So much so I read two more book in the day and a half that follows putting this one down!

Rough Draft (Invitation to Eden)

Rough Draft (Invitation to Eden)Rough Draft by Mari Carr
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Eden: An isolated island with a magical essence about it, it’s said to give you just what you really need.
A tropical paradise with a mystery owner and a BDSM dungeon. Hmmmm…to good to be true??

Rissa Pierre owner operator of the Royal Lunch will do anything to perk up her buddy Jett. Jett happens to be a murder mystery writer, with a severe case of writers block and her long time friend. Thinking a Paradise getaway will be just what the doctor orders to shake loose Jett’s creative juices, calling in reinforcements (Jett’s family) applies just the right amount of pressure to get him to except. There is just one catch she has to go as well. Tropical fun in the sun with your bestie wouldn’t be so bad except there is only one room and Rissa wants to explore the dungeon…how do you sneak out of a shared hotel room and go hit up a private BDSM dungeon? Where there is a will there is a way! Little does Rissa know that more that Jett’s creativity is stirred on this trip. One hot kiss is all it takes for these two to realize just what they have been overlooking all these years.. Each other! With things heating up faster than she expected the Dead body Rissa and Jett stumble upon is the best buffer one can hope for. Nothing cools the jets faster than a dead guy with his cock stuffed in his mouth.

I found this novella a perfect lead into the Eden series. I have not read any of the Invitation to Eden books and if this is just a glimpse….well let’s just say I’m all aboard for that bookcation! With erotic fun and wild D/s moments to ferreting out a crazed killer, this short is well rounded and can’t be overlooked.
